Note: The following article published in the Sunday Tribune responds to attacks by the ANC and by Heinrich Bohmke on Abahlali baseMjondolo. Bohmke claimed that AbM was responsible for the attacks on Kennedy Road in 2009 but yet the case was thrown out of court after the judge found that police had manufactured evidence against the movement. Many AbM members have also accused Mr. Bohmke of attempting to bribe them in 2006 and since that time the movement has refused to work with him in any capacity.

SOUTH Africans have been asking the leaders of Abahlali baseMjondolo why the government continues to ignore the demands of shack dwellers.
They have been asking why after all the marches, statements, reports and meetings, the Kennedy Road settlement continues to get burnt down in fires, such as the one on Sunday, July 4, that took four lives and left more than 3 000 people displaced and homeless.
